Everyday, when you accomplish one thing toward what you have set as a goal,

you get one golden coin from the universal mint.

Every time you do what you said you meant

or lived up to a personal resolution or commitment,

fought back your will to self destruct,

took the higher ground,

made a vow and kept it,

promised to succeed,

met your challenge

and beat the odds,

you earned one golden coin to keep.

When you failed to do these things,

lied, betrayed, fooled, tricked or seemed

like something you were not,

hurt yourself or others,

gave into one weakness after the other,

you must pay back

one golden coin for each transgression,

one golden coin for each missed opportunity,

one golden coin for every time you broke a command of God’s.

And at the end of your journey,

at the end of your life,

when you get to the bridge that takes you to the Promised Land,

the land of milk and honey,

the divine reward to sit at the side of God,

you will have to pay to get across.

The cost?

One golden coin.

Will you be able to pay

or will you be bankrupt

exiled to the Land of Nod?

Will you have at least one golden coin to cross?

Or will you be one golden coin short of heaven?
